SCHOOL DINNERS

School dinners represent the social element of the school environment where our children learn table manners and etiquette.  There has long been a positive association between learning outcomes and nutrition.

Riverview has a kitchen on site where fresh meals are prepared and cooked daily by staff from Twelve15, which is part of Surrey County Council.  It has been providing school meals for over 70 years and feeds thousands of school children daily.

Pupils’ wellbeing is at the heart of Twelve15’s recipes.  Every weekday it focuses on providing fresh, healthy, and nutritionally balanced lunches that adhere to Government Food Standards.  80% of meals are cooked from scratch, using locally sourced produce whenever possible.

There is a three-week menu cycle, offering daily hot meal options, including a vegetarian choice.

From September 2024, school dinners for Junior children costs £14.00 a week (£2.80 per day).  Dinner money should be paid in advance via the ParentMail app.

School dinners are served in our dining hall.

FREE SCHOOL MEALS

If you think your child may be entitled to free school meals, a form is available from the School Office. Once the form has been returned to the school, a check on eligibility will be made, and children will not be placed on the free meals register until their entitlement has been confirmed. Parents are asked to ensure that any forms requested are returned promptly. It is important that the School Office is notified of any changes to your financial circumstances as soon as possible as this may affect your eligibility to receive a free school meal. 

Since September 2014, all Reception and KS1 pupils are eligible for free school meals. However, if you are in receipt of any benefit, please still complete and return your form as this could enable you to receive financial assistance with other activities such as school trips or clubs.

SPECIAL DIETARY NEEDS

Twelve15 caters for the 14 key allergens identified by the Food Standards Agency.  It also has a range of Special Diet menus, including ‘Dairy Free’ and ‘Free from Gluten’.

If your child has any special dietary needs due to allergies or religion, please ensure you complete and return a dietary form available from the School Office.

It is parents' responsibility to complete this form and to keep it up to date.

PACKED LUNCHES

Packed lunches are eaten under the supervision of a lunchtime supervisor. Packed lunches should be brought in a lunch box clearly marked with your child’s name. The food provided should be simple and easily eaten, and we would ask that you adhere to our promotion of the Food in Schools Policy – no fizzy or high energy drinks allowed and no sweets. CHANGING FROM SCHOOL DINNERS

If your child wants to change from school dinners to packed lunches (or vice versa) the school office will require one week’s notice.

COOL MILK SCHEME 

Our school milk scheme

Did you know our school has a school milk scheme?
By registering your child for our school milk scheme they will receive a 189ml (third of a pint) carton of semi-skimmed milk every day.

“How much does it cost?”
Thanks to government subsidies, school milk is free for all under-fives, and is subsidised at around £15 a term for children aged five or older.

“Why should I register my child?”
School milk provides your child with essential nutrients, such as calcium and protein, for strong, healthy teeth and bones. It is also rehydrating and energy boosting, helping to bridge the long gap between breakfast and lunch, so children stay focused.

“How do I register my child?”

If your child is under five-

1. Go to www.coolmilk.com/register.
2. Just register by a Tuesday for your child’s free milk to start the following week.
3. Free milk will continue until the Friday before your child’s fifth birthday. You will receive a payment request three weeks before this time - if you wish for your child to continue to receive school milk, simply make a payment.

If your child is over five-

1. Go to www.coolmilk.com/register.
2. Pay Cool Milk online, over the phone or at a local PayPoint. 
3. Just pay by a Tuesday for your child’s milk to start the following week.
